ECP Extends Islamabad LG Nomination Deadline to Dec. 30

The move follows a local holiday that curtailed an already tight filing window.

Overview

  • The Election Commission of Pakistan moved the final date for filing nomination papers to December 30 after granting a two-day extension from December 27.
  • PTI had formally asked for more time, citing a December 26 public holiday in Islamabad for the UAE president’s visit that it said would disrupt filings.
  • The ECP’s schedule had set nomination filing for December 22–27, excluding December 25, with polling fixed for February 15.
  • PTI highlighted the scale of the first phase—125 union councils and about 1,125 councillor seats—as a factor increasing administrative pressure near the deadline.
  • Following the revocation of its election symbol, PTI said its candidates were instructed to file under the Sunni Ittehad Council banner.
