Overview
- Across 12 States and UTs, 50.69 crore forms were printed and 37.05 crore (72.66%) distributed as the enumeration window runs from November 4 to December 4.
- Lakshadweep reported full coverage, Goa reached 99.99%, Gujarat crossed 88%, Tamil Nadu was at 78%, and Uttar Pradesh was near 70%, according to the ECI’s daily bulletin.
- In West Bengal, 6.56 crore forms reached voters (85.71%) with about 15% pending; distribution lagged in Kolkata at roughly 66% while East Burdwan and East Midnapore neared 97%.
- The Supreme Court issued notice to the ECI on challenges to the SIR, gave two weeks for a reply, scheduled hearings for November 26–27, and asked high courts to hold related cases in abeyance.
- Operational strains and confusion persist, including a reported BLO death in East Burdwan and Chennai voters hesitating over 2005 family-roll details, with officials clarifying forms can be submitted without full 2005 information and records checked on ECI sites; voters warned that deletions would bar voting until the 2026 revision but appeals are available up to the state CEO.
