ECI Tightens Bihar Border Vigil, Deploys Observers Ahead of Two-Phase Polls

The directive prioritizes intelligence-led seizures to keep inducements and contraband out of poll-bound districts.

  • At a New Delhi review, the Commission met Chief Secretaries and DGPs of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal alongside the Home and Railways ministries, SSB and other enforcement bodies.
  • Central agencies including the Narcotics Control Bureau, Income Tax Department, CGST and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence were told to intensify operations and maximise actionable-intelligence-based seizures.
  • Vulnerable border districts will see sealed checkpoints and heightened checks across inter-state routes and the international border with Nepal.
  • The ECI has deployed 121 General and 18 Police Observers for phase one and 122 General and 20 Police Observers for phase two of the Bihar Assembly elections.
  • Flying squads and static surveillance teams are operational, voter facilitation arrangements have been reviewed, and polling is set for November 6 and 11 with counting on November 14.
