ECI Tells Delhi High Court It Won’t Allot PMK ‘Mango’ Symbol in Leadership Dispute

The freeze follows rival claims to the party presidency now pending before the Delhi High Court.

Overview

  • On Dec. 4, the Election Commission of India told Justice Mini Pushkarna that the PMK’s election symbol will remain frozen during the unresolved leadership fight.
  • The ECI said it cannot accept Form A and Form B from either faction while both claim ownership of the party.
  • Founder Dr S. Ramadoss has petitioned the court, alleging the commission relied on wrong documents when recognizing his son, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, as party president.
  • Senior advocate Balbir Singh, for the founder, argued Anbumani misrepresented meeting dates to extend his tenure beyond May 2025, a claim the rival side rejects.
  • Counsel for Anbumani dismissed the allegations as misleading, as a Ramadoss-led faction staged a protest in Delhi accusing the ECI of accepting forged papers.
