ECI Says It Held 4,719 Structured Meetings With Parties Nationwide

The drive marks a shift to proactive, routine consultations tied to the commission’s wider election-management reforms.

Overview

  • Over the past six months, officials held 40 meetings at the CEO level, 800 by district election officers, and 3,879 by electoral registration officers, engaging more than 28,000 party representatives.
  • The initiative was conceived at a March 2025 conference of chief electoral officers and rolled out as a formal consultation program.
  • In May, the commission met heads or authorised representatives of five national parties: BSP, BJP, CPI(M), NPP and AAP.
  • The Indian National Congress was invited for May 15 but deferred its participation and has not responded to rescheduling, according to the commission.
  • During July and August, the commission engaged 17 recognised state parties and said the sessions supplement request-based meetings to strengthen the electoral process with a focus on roll accuracy and transparency.
