Overview
- The Election Commission reported distribution of 37.05 crore enumeration forms, or 72.66% coverage across 12 states and UTs, with the enumeration phase running November 4–December 4 and draft rolls due December 9 before final rolls on February 7, 2026.
- The Supreme Court sought the ECI’s response to challenges against the October 27 SIR notification and listed detailed hearings for November 26–27, also pausing related cases in high courts and taking up an ADR plea on roll transparency.
- A new ECI notice allows parties to appoint Booth Level Agents from anywhere within the same Assembly constituency if none are available in the same polling part, a change the Trinamool Congress called biased and the BJP defended as consistent with polling agent norms.
- West Bengal officials said UIDAI indicated 32–34 lakh Aadhaar records deactivated after deaths could guide identification of deceased electors for hearings following enumeration, with state distribution reported at roughly 88.8%.
- Operational strains persisted, with low return rates in parts of Chennai due to confusion over older roll details and a reported BLO death in West Bengal as field staff and voters faced tight timelines and documentation hurdles.
