ECI Reviews Bihar Poll Readiness in Patna as Parties Press for One–Two Phase Voting

The on-ground review capped final preparations after publication of Bihar’s updated electoral roll.

Overview

  • Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi held consultations in Patna with representatives of 12 recognised parties and reviewed logistics with top state officials.
  • Multiple parties urged the Commission to schedule polling immediately after the Chhath festival and to limit voting to one or two phases, with JD(U) seeking a single-day poll.
  • Opposition representatives, including RJD and CPI-ML, asked the EC to publish detailed data on voter deletions under the Special Intensive Revision, while the BJP sought stricter verification for veiled women voters and emphasized distribution of Form 17C.
  • The EC said 425 central observers have been briefed and deployed, and it directed DEOs and SPs to act impartially, resolve complaints promptly, monitor social media for misinformation, and implement postal ballot and Form 17C measures.
  • The final electoral roll published on September 30 lists about 7.42 crore electors after roughly 65 lakh deletions and 21.53 lakh additions, and several outlets report the poll schedule could be announced within days.
