Overview
- The Election Commission, releasing figures on Sunday, said the Electronic Seizure Management System activated on February 26 logged Rs 651.51 crore in cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals and freebies in about 38 days.
- West Bengal accounts for the largest share at Rs 319 crore, including 21.29 lakh litres of liquor worth Rs 55 crore, drugs worth Rs 65 crore, precious metals worth Rs 39 crore and other freebies valued at Rs 150 crore.
- Beyond Bengal, totals stand at Rs 170 crore in Tamil Nadu, Rs 97 crore in Assam, Rs 58 crore in Kerala and Rs 7 crore in Puducherry, reflecting concentrated enforcement in key poll-bound regions.
- Category-wise, the haul includes drugs valued at about Rs 230 crore and non-cash freebies at roughly Rs 231 crore, alongside Rs 79.3 crore in liquor, Rs 58 crore in precious metals and Rs 53.2 crore in cash.
- Over 5,173 flying squads and more than 5,200 Static Surveillance Teams target a 100‑minute response to complaints, with the ECI urging reports via its C‑Vigil app and setting up District Grievance Committees as checks continue through polling on April 9, April 23 and April 29 before counting on May 4.
