ECI Overhauls EVM Ballot Papers With Colour Photos and Bold Numerals Starting With Bihar Polls

Revised Rule 49B guidelines impose uniform specifications to improve readability, with printing routed to government presses under defined safeguards.

Overview

  • Ballot papers will now carry colour photographs of candidates, with faces occupying three-fourths of a 2 cm by 2.5 cm image area for clearer identification.
  • Serial numbers for candidates and NOTA will appear in the international form of Indian numerals in bold, set at font size 30 for visibility.
  • Names of all candidates and the NOTA option will be printed in a single, uniform font type and size in the same language(s) as the official candidate list.
  • Ballot papers will use 70 GSM stock, with pink sheets of specified RGB values for Assembly elections and white sheets for parliamentary polls.
  • Layout and production are standardized: a maximum of 15 names per sheet with NOTA last, constituency details printed in English, and printing preferred at government or semi-government presses with guarded use of private presses.
