Overview
- Electoral Registration Officers will conduct the first vetting of identity papers, followed by a second review by District Magistrates/DEOs after hearings conclude in early January, with accountability fixed on the clearing officials.
- West Bengal domicile certificates issued after July 2025 will undergo special checks for authenticity and residency when submitted by applicants lacking linkage to the 2002 rolls.
- Voters not mapped to the 2002 electoral list must attend hearings and present any one of 13 Election Commission–approved identity documents to retain their names.
- EROs have a five-day deadline to verify documents for those absent from the 2002 rolls, with cross-district papers sent to the relevant DEO and out-of-state documents routed via the concerned state CEO before final scrutiny in West Bengal.
