ECI Orders Multi-Agency Crackdown to Protect Bihar Polls From Cash, Liquor and Drugs

The poll panel set a zero-tolerance posture, directing constituency mapping, tighter border checks and real-time intelligence sharing to deter inducements.

  • Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar led a high-level MDCEI meeting in New Delhi with enforcement and regulatory heads to finalise the anti-inducement plan.
  • Seventeen departments, including CBDT, CBIC, ED, DRI, FIU-IND, RBI, IBA, NCB, RPF, CISF, BSF, CRPF, SSB, BCAS, AAI and the Department of Posts, presented preparedness updates.
  • Bihar’s Chief Secretary, DGP, State Police Nodal Officer and Chief Electoral Officer joined virtually as agencies were tasked to coordinate at national, state and district levels.
  • Directives include mapping vulnerable constituencies, curbing covert campaign expenditure and intensifying checks on inter-state routes and the Nepal border to stop cash, liquor, drugs and fake currency.
  • The Commission cited seizures worth over ₹3.3 billion since October 6 under the Model Code of Conduct as polls approach on November 6 and 11 with counting on November 14.
