ECI Launches One-Day Workshop to Bolster Fact-Based Election Communication

The effort follows a surge of misleading claims about voter rolls, registration, voting systems.

Overview

  • India’s Election Commission began the New Delhi workshop on September 12, inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
  • The session brings together Media Nodal Officers and Social Media Nodal Officers from Chief Electoral Officer offices across all 36 states and union territories.
  • The programme focuses on timely, coordinated dissemination of legal, factual, rule-based information and reiterates that elections are conducted under the Constitution.
  • ECI officials will address the recent rise in misinformation by preparing state-level teams to issue prompt, fact-based responses on electoral processes.
  • The training builds on IIIDEM orientations held on April 9 and June 5, adding best practices in voter awareness, communication planning, and outreach.
