ECI Deploys 470 Observers, Sets Oct 4–5 Bihar Review as Final Roll Due Sept 30

A Supreme Court review of the Special Intensive Revision on October 7 could still alter the voter list and the election timetable.

Overview

  • The Election Commission will brief general, police and expenditure observers in New Delhi on October 3 ahead of the full commission’s Bihar visit.
  • A total of 470 observers—320 IAS, 60 IPS and 90 from other services—have been appointed for the Bihar Assembly polls and by-elections in J&K, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Mizoram and Odisha.
  • During the October 4–5 visit, the commission will meet Bihar’s top administrative, police and election officials and party representatives to review security and logistics.
  • Media reports indicate the poll schedule could be announced shortly after the visit, possibly in early October, following standard pre-announcement steps.
  • With the Assembly term ending on November 22, officials are expediting routine preparations, and the ECI has sought a report by October 6 on transfers of long-tenured officers, according to reports.
