ECI Clears 12 Alternative Photo IDs for Bihar Voting

The change is intended to keep eligible voters from being turned away for lack of a voter card.

Overview

  • Voters listed on Bihar’s electoral rolls may use any of 12 approved photo IDs if they do not present an Electors’ Photo Identity Card.
  • Accepted documents include Aadhaar, PAN, passport, driving licence, MNREGA job card, bank or post office passbook with photo, UDID card, and the NPR smart card.
  • The Election Commission said EPICs have been issued to nearly all electors and directed officials to deliver EPICs to new voters within 15 days of final roll publication.
  • Polling stations will make privacy-sensitive arrangements for purdanasheen women, with identification conducted by lady polling staff.
  • Bihar’s Assembly election will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11 with counting on November 14, covering 243 seats and about 7.43 crore voters including roughly 14 lakh first-time electors.
