ECI Bans Exit Polls for Jubilee Hills Bye-Election, Effective Nov. 6–11

Hyderabad’s district election officer warned that breaches will be prosecuted under the Representation of the People Act.

  • Notification No. 576/EXIT/2025/SDR/Vol. I, dated October 13, bars conducting, publishing, or publicizing exit polls from 0700 hours on November 6 to 1830 hours on November 11.
  • The prohibition applies across television, radio, newspapers, social media platforms, and all digital or online channels.
  • Violations attract action under Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, with penalties of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
  • Section 126(1)(b) also restricts displaying election matter, including opinion or survey results, during the 48 hours before the close of polling.
  • District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan issued an October 15 press release urging media, political parties, digital influencers, and other stakeholders to comply.
