ECI Adds Four Special Roll Observers, Directs Micro-Observers to Flag Irregularities in Bengal Roll Revision

The move seeks tighter on-ground scrutiny to deliver an accurate final roll by February 14.

Overview

  • The Election Commission appointed Ratan Biswas, Vikas Singh, Sandeep Rewaji Rathod and Dr Shailesh as additional Special Roll Observers for West Bengal’s Special Intensive Revision, effective immediately until further directions.
  • Micro-observers were told to independently monitor field verification, claims and objections, and to report any procedural deviations through designated channels.
  • The observers will review on-ground work for strict adherence to statutory instructions to ensure transparency, accuracy and uniform implementation.
  • The second phase of the three-tier revision is underway after the December 16 draft, with publication of the final electoral roll scheduled for February 14.
  • ECI sources said about 58 lakh ineligible entries have been deleted so far, including roughly 24 lakh identified as deceased, with safeguards stressed to avoid wrongful exclusions.
