Overview
- The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed a formal press release on June 19 to launch the renamed Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy ahead of the opening Test in Leeds.
- The launch will feature recorded messages from Tendulkar and Anderson to underscore their records as the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in Test cricket.
- After Sachin Tendulkar and ICC chair Jay Shah pressed for it, the ECB agreed to introduce the Pataudi Medal for Excellence to retain the Pataudi name.
- The original launch planned for June 14 was postponed following the Air India Flight 171 crash in Ahmedabad that killed 275 people, including over 50 British nationals.
- Instituted in 2007 to mark India’s 75 years in Test cricket, the Pataudi Trophy’s heritage will now continue through the new medal awarded to the winning skipper.
