Overview
- The Commission said the Special Intensive Revision deleted about 65 lakh names before the draft roll and 3.66 lakh more during objections, leaving nearly 7.42 crore registered electors.
- Aadhaar will be accepted as an optional proof of identity under the court’s direction, but it is not proof of citizenship, age or address, and the EC may require additional documents for eligibility.
- Seventeen new steps will be used in Bihar, including 100% webcasting of polling stations, a 1,200-voter cap per booth, EPIC delivery within 15 days of registration, and mandatory VVPAT verification on complaints.
- Further changes include coloured candidate photos and larger serial numbers on EVM ballots, mobile phone deposit counters outside booths, postal ballots counted before the final two EVM rounds, and digital index cards for constituencies.
