EC Says Only CPI(ML) Filed Formal Objections in Bihar Roll Review

The poll panel’s latest bulletin lists CPI(ML) as the lone party filer, with large numbers of voter submissions continuing.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc MPs symbolically tear the SIR and throw it in a dustbin during their protest against Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

Overview

  • The Election Commission’s August 27 bulletin records 53 party objections in the Special Intensive Revision, all submitted by CPI(ML)-Liberation.
  • CPI(ML)’s filings rose from 10 to 53 within 24 hours, while no other party has registered a formal claim or objection so far.
  • Individual electors filed 178,948 claims or objections, with 20,702 disposed after the notice period, and 635,124 Form‑6 applications from new voters, with 27,825 processed.
  • The Commission reiterated that only submissions in prescribed Forms 6 and 7 by authorised booth agents count as formal filings, and that deletions require enquiry and a speaking order with reasons posted online.
  • RJD disputes the Commission’s account, alleging over 500 unacknowledged complaints and refusal of receipts by booth officials, with the filing window open until September 1.
