EC Reviews Bihar Poll Preparedness in Patna as Parties Seek Post-Chhath, Fewer Phases

The Commission ordered local officials to act impartially and resolve complaints quickly to strengthen trust in the process.

  • Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and two Election Commissioners held a two-day review in Patna, meeting 12 recognised parties on Saturday and assessing enforcement coordination on Sunday.
  • Most parties urged polling immediately after the Chhath festival and in one or two phases, with JD(U) pushing for a single phase and BJP backing one or two phases.
  • Opposition representatives, including RJD and CPI-ML, asked the EC to publish constituency- and booth-level details on voter deletions and additions from the Special Intensive Revision.
  • The EC directed DEOs and SPs to ensure impartial conduct, expedite grievance redressal, distribute Form 17C to agents, and monitor social media for fake news with prompt legal action when required.
  • Around 425 central observers have been briefed for deployment, final rolls list about 7.42 crore electors after the SIR, and poll dates are expected soon with the Assembly term ending on November 22.
