EC Rebuts AAP’s ‘Vote Chori’ Charge, Reposts 76-Page Reply Citing Due Process

The Commission cites statutory procedures alongside CEO/DEO findings to assert legal compliance.

Overview

  • The Election Commission reiterated that deletions from the voter list follow notice, objection and hearing requirements, calling the process transparent.
  • It resurfaced a January 13, 2025 response sent to then Delhi CM Atishi, attaching seven annexures that include a January 10 CEO/DEO report affirming adherence to the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
  • AAP’s Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged deliberate removal of thousands of voters in the New Delhi constituency, citing figures such as 42,000 and 6,100, and accused the EC of failing to act.
  • The EC termed claims of inaction incorrect, noting extra-cautious disposal of Form 7 deletions, a 64% rejection rate among 327 Form 6 additions for insufficient documents, and police complaints under Section 31 for false information.
  • A delegation including Atishi, Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann and Sanjay Singh previously presented grievances to the Commission, which points to public manuals, SOPs and FAQs for scrutiny of electoral rolls.
