eBay Slashes Buyer Protection Fee to 10p in Major UK Fee Overhaul

It will introduce tiered pricing alongside a live fee calculator ahead of 24-hour seller payouts launching August 6.

Overview

  • eBay has cut its fixed Buyer Protection fee from 75p to 10p on private sales following strong customer backlash.
  • Under the new structure buyers pay a 10p flat fee plus 7% of the first £20, 4% on amounts between £20 and £300 and 2% on amounts between £300 and £4,000.
  • All fees are rolled into the listed price and will not apply to vehicles, classified ads or property listings.
  • A live fee calculator is in development to let shoppers preview charges before buying, although its launch date remains unconfirmed.
  • Starting August 6, sellers who meet recent sales and low-case-count requirements will receive payments within 24 hours of a completed sale.
