Eastpointe Father Charged After Threat to 'Air Out' Elementary School Over Snack Dispute

Prosecutors say the threat over a missed snack is being treated as a credible plan to shoot up the school.

Overview

  • Eastpointe police arrested 43-year-old David Scott Jr. within about two hours of a dismissal-time confrontation at Pleasantview Elementary.
  • Investigators say he threatened to return and “air the place out,” and a search of his home uncovered multiple rounds of ammunition.
  • He was arraigned on felony ammunition possession as a prohibited person, a misdemeanor threat against a school, and disorderly conduct, with a fourth-offense habitual notice.
  • A judge set $150,000 cash/surety bond and ordered a mental-health evaluation, GPS monitoring if released, no contact with the school, and restrictions on travel and substance use.
  • Officials said no student was singled out for snack time, the district added police presence and indoor recess as precautions, and court hearings were set for Nov. 5 and Nov. 12.
