Eastern Russia Plunges Into Winter While Moscow Remains Unseasonably Mild

Meteorologists expect gales, heavy snow and Arctic lows near −35°C across the Urals, Siberia and the Far East in the first week of November.

  • Regional forecasts for the Urals flag snow, wet-snow accretion, icy roads and night temperatures down to roughly −20 to −24°C in places, with Yamal and Khanty-Mansiysk near −19 to −22°C. Moscow remains relatively warm near +8 to +10°C this week, though brief night frosts were recorded in the region (to −2°C in Cherusti) and at 0°C in Butovo, with meteorological winter still expected around mid-November.
