Eastern District of New York Employees Honored at Attorney General’s Awards
The awards recognize exceptional public service and contributions to justice, with specific cases involving ISIS prosecution and a multibillion-dollar bribery scheme.
- Seventeen employees and two former Assistant U.S. Attorneys from the Eastern District of New York (EDNY) have been recognized by Attorney General Merrick B. Garland for their extraordinary public service at the 70th and 71st Attorney General’s Awards Ceremony.
- The awards honor individuals across the department and federal, state, local, and tribal partners for their efforts in protecting national security, civil rights, addressing violent crime, prosecuting gangs, and trafficking in narcotics and human beings.
- Among the recipients, AUSAs Matt Haggans and Saritha Komatireddy, former AUSA Josh Hafetz, and Paralegal Specialist Huda Abouchaer were recognized for their work in obtaining a trial conviction of Mirsad Kandic, a high-ranking member of ISIS.
- AUSA David James was honored for his 35-year career with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, where he represented the government in the Second Circuit in hundreds of cases.
- AUSAs Alixandra Smith, Drew Rolle, and Dylan Stern were recognized for securing the trial conviction of Roger Ng, a former managing director of the Goldman Sachs Group Inc., for his role in a multibillion-dollar bribery and money laundering scheme.
