Overview
- The traffic pattern will switch Saturday between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m., putting eastbound I-94 traffic into shared westbound lanes separated by a concrete barrier and requiring crews to add new pavement markings and ramp signage.
- Several on- and off-ramps will remain closed through mid-2027, including the southbound Wayne Road and Merriman Road ramps to eastbound I-94 and the eastbound I-94 ramp to Ecorse Road, with MDOT posting specific detour routes.
- Northbound and southbound Beech Daly Road at I-94 will close for bridge demolition from 5 a.m. Aug. 3 through 5 a.m. Aug. 10, and drivers should use Ecorse or Van Born roads to Telegraph/US-24 or other local routes.
- Local outlets report the shift will affect roughly 100,000 drivers daily, and MDOT advises airport travelers to use I-275 to Eureka Road and all motorists to plan extra travel time during the changeover.
- The reconfiguration is part of the multi-phase Restore 94 reconstruction project, MDOT says the temporary two-way layout and several long-term ramp closures are meant to keep traffic moving while crews rebuild the eastbound roadway and bridges and drivers can find updates at Restore94.com or Michigan.gov/drive.
