East-West Line Services Resume One Day Early After Depot Connection Works

Comprehensive testing finished early, clearing the line to reopen ahead of plan.

Overview

  • Regular trains restarted at the beginning of service on Dec 8 between Bedok and Tampines and between Tanah Merah and Expo, with Tanah Merah and Simei stations reopening.
  • LTA said ultrasonic checks and other safety validations on tracks, power supply and signalling enabled the early restart, following low-speed trials that began on Dec 4 at about 18 km/h.
  • The nine-day suspension from Nov 29 supported linking the East-West Line to the new East Coast Integrated Depot and to a new platform at Tanah Merah.
  • This second phase covered a 4.8km stretch across 12 worksites, involved about 880 personnel working round the clock, and included track connections, removals and installation of a buffer stop.
  • The integrated depot is slated to start operations in the second half of 2026, with Changi Depot to be decommissioned in the first half of next year to provide an alternative train launch point and greater operational flexibility.
