East German Rental Supply Rebounds, Rents Continue to Edge Up

A DPA pull of portal data finds broader listing gains despite Immoscout24 declines in Saxony and Brandenburg.

Overview

  • Major platforms report more rental listings across eastern states, giving seekers greater choice compared with late 2024.
  • Counts diverge by provider: Kleinanzeigen and Immowelt show wider increases, while Immoscout24 records fewer listings in Saxony (about −9%) and Brandenburg (about −5%).
  • Kleinanzeigen reports October 2025 vs. October 2024 gains of 18% in Thuringia, 10% in Saxony, 16% in Brandenburg, and 12% in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
  • Immoscout24 says offered rents rose in every eastern state since early 2025, with small increases such as Thuringia €6.54→€6.65/m², Saxony €6.57→€6.65, Brandenburg €8.77→€8.94, and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania €7.59→€7.74.
  • Immoscout24 cites an outflow from Berlin and shrinking vacancy in Leipzig as possible reasons for regional supply tightness, while analyst Thomas Beyerlein sees an overall upward dynamic in the east for rentals and ownership.
