Overview
- The East Bay Regional Park District acquired 82 acres on Richmond’s Point San Pablo Peninsula to preserve the shoreline and develop a public park.
- The purchase includes culturally and environmentally significant areas such as Ohlone sacred sites, remnants of a Chinese fishing village, and the historic Winehaven complex.
- Most of the price came from a $36 million allocation in the 2022–23 California budget, with remaining funds from Measures AA and WW.
- Construction started Aug. 1 on a 2.5-mile Bay Trail extension to connect Point Molate Beach Park with the Richmond–San Rafael Bridge pathway.
- The acquisition caps years of contentious proposals and litigation, including a rejected 2010 casino plan and a 2022 transfer that positioned the tribe to sell the land to the park district.
