Earth Has Reached Tipping Point, Scientists Warn

  • A new study found Earth has surpassed seven out of eight scientifically established safety limits and is in "the danger zone" for the well-being of people living on it.
  • The study by the Earth Commission looks at climate, air pollution, water contamination, natural environment and the overall health of the planet.
  • Hotspots of the worst problems were found throughout Eastern Europe, South Asia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, parts of Africa, and much of Brazil, Mexico, China, and some of the Western U.S.
  • The study found that even if global warming is limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius, millions of people will still face harm.
  • Scientists urge world governments and policymakers to take the crisis more seriously and make major changes, including transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy and better managing natural resources.
