Overview
- D3 Publisher and developer Sandlot announced the game on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as a PlayStation 5–targeted update of Earth Defense Force 6 that will launch in Japan in 2027.
- The overhaul raises peak enemy counts to roughly double those in EDF 6 to increase the series' trademark sense of overwhelming, swarm-driven combat.
- More than half of EDF 6 missions have been revised, new missions have been added, and powerful foes that were DLC in EDF 6 will now appear in the main story.
- For the first time in the series players can customize weapons with elemental or effect modifiers such as combustion for rifles or freezing for rockets to change loadout strategy.
- A playable build will be shown at Tokyo Game Show 2026 from September 17–21 at Makuhari Messe, Western release plans have not been announced, and EDF 6 previously drew over one million players worldwide.
