Early Winter Grips North and Central India as IMD Warns of Colder Week

Cold northerly winds linked to Himalayan snowfall are driving a sharp fall in night temperatures across the plains.

  • The IMD says minimum temperatures will remain 2–5°C below normal across northwest and adjoining central India for the next six to seven days.
  • Madhya Pradesh is under a two-day cold-wave alert for nine districts, with Rajgarh at 7.4°C, Bhopal at 8.4°C, and Indore logging its coldest November night in 25 years.
  • Delhi recorded a minimum near 11°C and is forecast to see 9–11°C early next week, as the city’s 24-hour AQI reached 361 in the very poor category.
  • Mumbai registered its first sub‑20°C minimum of the season at Santacruz (19.6°C), with air quality readings varying widely from moderate to unhealthy, including pockets as high as 250 AQI.
  • Pune cooled to 15°C at Shivajinagar and IMD Pune expects another 2–3°C drop, while separate systems are set to bring rain and thunderstorms to Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the coming days.
