Overview
- Early in-person voting runs Sept. 19 through Nov. 1 at local registrar offices in the jurisdiction where voters are registered.
- Voter registration and mail-ballot request deadlines are Oct. 24, with in-person or mailed forms due by 5 p.m. and online submissions by 11:59 p.m.
- Mail ballots must be requested through the Virginia Department of Elections, postmarked by Nov. 4, and received by noon on Nov. 7.
- Election Day is Nov. 4 with polls open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.; voters may present acceptable ID or sign an ID confirmation statement, and provisional voters have until noon Friday after the election to provide ID or a statement.
- The governor’s race is Abigail Spanberger (D) versus Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (R), with an August Roanoke College poll showing Spanberger ahead and VPAP data indicating a fundraising edge, and the contest will produce Virginia’s first woman governor.
