Early Voting Opens in Texas Oct. 19

Local voter guides collect polling locations, ID rules, hours, candidate lineups, ballot measures, and poll-site limits so Texans can vote correctly.

Overview

  • Early voting runs Oct. 19–30 with Election Day on Nov. 3 and polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, so voters who plan to vote in person can choose early dates to avoid lines.
  • Tarrant County and other county elections offices publish searchable lists of early-vote and Election Day polling places, daily hours and wait-time tools that voters should check before they go.
  • Texas requires an accepted photo ID at the polls such as a Texas driver’s license or U.S. passport, and voters who cannot reasonably obtain one may sign a Reasonable Impediment Declaration and present alternate documents under VoteTexas guidance.
  • Major statewide contests on the ballot include the U.S. Senate race between James Talarico and Ken Paxton and the governor’s race between Greg Abbott and Gina Hinojosa, with many local county and judicial races that will affect county services and budgets.
  • Ballot measures include Houston’s Proposition A, which would make misdemeanor marijuana possession the Houston Police Department’s lowest enforcement priority and ban no-knock warrants after Ground Game Texas gathered about 40,000 signatures to place it on the ballot.
