Early Voting Begins in South Korea with Enhanced Fraud Oversight

The National Election Commission has launched hourly public turnout updates to deter fraud during early voting.

  • Two-day early voting runs May 29–30 with polling stations open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 3,569 sites nationwide.
  • Voters must present government-issued photo identification and may cast ballots at any station regardless of registered home address.
  • The NEC is streaming 24-hour live surveillance of ballot storage sites and has deployed police to key polling locations.
  • Persistent conspiracy theories and election fraud claims have led the NEC to file a police complaint against independent candidate Hwang Kyo-ahn.
  • Leading contenders Lee Jae-myung, Kim Moon-soo and Lee Jun-seok have all pledged to vote early and are encouraging their supporters to do the same.
