Early Snow and Heavy Rain Hit Himachal Pradesh as Rohtang Traffic Halted

The IMD expects the wet spell to persist through Tuesday before improving on October 8.

Overview

  • Gondhla and Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti recorded 5 cm and 4 cm of snowfall as minimum temperatures fell by 1–3°C, with Tabo at 3.1°C and Keylong at 3.6°C.
  • Intermittent rain since Sunday delivered up to 45 mm in Chamba district, with Guler at 42 mm and Nagrota Suriyan at 38.4 mm among the highest readings.
  • The weather office issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi on Monday, with a yellow alert for isolated areas on Tuesday.
  • Thunderstorms and gusts between 41 and 57 km/h were reported across towns including Jot, Sundernagar, Bhunter, Kangra, Palampur and Shimla.
  • The Kullu district administration suspended vehicular movement to Rohtang Pass and advised commuters to avoid the highway.
