Early-Morning Fire Destroys American Fork Honey Factory

The State Fire Marshal is reviewing the cause following a response that contained the blaze to one building.

  • Fire broke out just after 4 a.m. Sunday at 7500 N 6500 W in American Fork, according to the fire department.
  • Crews from American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Lehi and Lone Peak arrived to find heavy fire involvement at a honey manufacturing plant.
  • Firefighters prevented spread to nearby structures, but the facility was declared a total loss by officials.
  • Several firefighters were stung by bees and two suffered minor non–bee-related injuries, with all able to continue working the scene.
  • Beehive State Honey, the family business at the site, has launched a GoFundMe as officials said most nearby hives were intact but the bees’ condition was unknown.
