Eagles Open Nolan Smith’s Return Window, Set Nov. 10 Activation Deadline

The move positions Philadelphia to bolster a thin edge group led by recent addition Jaelan Phillips.

Overview

  • Philadelphia designated Nolan Smith for return from injured reserve, opening a 21-day practice window and making a Week 10 appearance at Green Bay possible if he is cleared.
  • The Eagles must add Smith to the 53-man roster by 4:00 p.m. ET on Monday, Nov. 10 for him to be eligible against the Packers, or he will remain on IR for the season under NFL rules.
  • In corresponding transactions, the team released outside linebacker Patrick Johnson from the active roster and wide receiver Terrace Marshall from the practice squad.
  • Johnson is now subject to waivers because the NFL trade deadline has passed, which places all released players in the waiver process.
  • Smith has been sidelined since a Week 3 triceps injury, and his potential return would strengthen a pass-rush rotation that now includes Jaelan Phillips along with Brandon Graham, Jalyx Hunt and Josh Uche.
