Overview
- Kinky fell from his nest and broke a wing as a chick in July 2023 and was feared unlikely to survive that injury.
- In August 2024 the bird was unusually observed at a new nest site being fed by its parents, a behaviour the RSPB said it had not seen before.
- Kinky was seen again in July 2025 circling above the island of Eorsa and has now been re-sighted on Mull by naturalist Iolo Williams.
- He is about three years old and has started to develop adult plumage but is not expected to reach sexual maturity until around five years old.
- Experts say his continued survival highlights the success of reintroduction work in Scotland while warning that he will face higher risks from territorial and mating conflicts as he nears breeding age.
