EAGLE Force Busts Alprazolam Network in Hyderabad, Six Arrested

Overview

• Rachakonda’s EAGLE Force carried out a pre-dawn surveillance operation on Tuesday and intercepted a Maruti Brezza at Rukmini Enclave in Macha Bollaram, arresting six people.
• Police recovered 1.189 kilograms of alprazolam, about Rs 5.45 lakh in cash, multiple mobile phones and one car during searches of the suspects and the vehicle.
• Interrogation and initial probes show the suspects procured the drug in bulk, stored it at secure locations and supplied it to toddy compounds and toddy shop operators for mixing into drinks.
• A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and investigators are tracing source suppliers, financiers, transport routes and additional members who are reported to be absconding.
• Toddy refers to locally sold fermented palm sap and mixing it with a psychotropic like alprazolam can sharply increase intoxication and public health risk, which could prompt wider checks of toddy outlets and supply chains.
