EA Reopens Battlefield Labs to Test Bigger Maps and Portal Server Browser Ahead of Launch

Sign-ups return for a new playtest reported for Aug. 29 to validate larger-scale combat, a Portal-only server browser with player-hosted persistence, and a Hardcore ruleset before the Oct. 10 release.

Overview

  • Battlefield Studios confirmed Battlefield Labs playtesting is resuming, with prior participants auto‑eligible and new testers required to register under NDA on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Upcoming sessions will trial larger maps, including a remake of Battlefield 3’s Operation Firestorm and the new Mirak Valley, to tune vehicle-heavy, combined‑arms balance.
  • The in-game server browser being tested is limited to Battlefield Portal and is non-final, with evaluations focused on accessibility, UI clarity, and stability rather than official matchmaking servers.
  • Developers plan to assess player-owned servers in Portal, including setup via shortcodes, tagging and descriptions, join flow, and an option for persistent listings in the browser.
  • EA also published official PC specs and launch features: 4K, ultrawide, uncapped framerates, 600+ settings, DLSS 4/FSR/XeSS support, and Javelin anti-cheat tied to Secure Boot, TPM 2.0, HVCI, with launch set for Oct. 10.
