E. Coli Outbreak Linked to Organic Carrots Expands, Triggering Nationwide Recalls

- The E. coli O121:H19 outbreak has been traced to organic carrots supplied by Grimmway Farms, affecting 39 individuals and causing one death so far.
- Grimmway Farms has recalled dozens of whole and baby carrot products sold under various brand names, including at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Wegmans.
- The contamination has also impacted secondary products like Fabalish Kickin’ Carrot Falafel Bites and Whole Foods-branded carrot and celery sticks, leading to additional recalls.
- While the affected products are no longer sold in stores, health officials warn consumers to check their refrigerators and discard any potentially contaminated items.
- The E. coli strain involved can cause severe complications such as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which may lead to kidney failure and other life-threatening conditions.
