Overview
- Dylan Green, 20, admitted causing death by dangerous driving and driving uninsured and was sentenced at Preston Crown Court to eight years and three months in a young offenders' institution.
- He was disqualified from driving for 12 years and four months and must pass an extended re-test.
- CCTV and expert analysis showed he rode a 37-metre wheelie on an uninsured, high-powered e-bike with a pillion and no helmets, which prosecutors said entirely compromised his view and had him travelling about 41% faster than other vehicles.
- He struck Bart O’Hare less than three metres into the carriageway as the 86-year-old stepped into the road to buy fish and chips, then fled with his passenger; the bike has never been recovered and he returned about 45 minutes later.
- O’Hare died in hospital eight days later from head and chest injuries, while the judge said he detected no real remorse and noted Green had been on bail for drugs offences, receiving a concurrent 12-month term for supplying MDMA.
