DWP Warns Pensioners to Report Changes or Risk Losing Attendance Allowance

Using the helpline to clarify reportable changes can help claimants avoid penalties

Overview

  • The DWP has restated that state pensioners must notify nine categories of changes—including shifts in health needs, hospital or care home stays, travel abroad over four weeks, imprisonment and personal detail updates—to preserve their Attendance Allowance.
  • Claimants may face payment suspension, court action or fines if they provide incorrect information or omit required notifications.
  • Attendance Allowance pays two non-means-tested weekly rates of £73.60 for help during either day or night and £110.40 for continuous day-and-night support or terminal care.
  • Roughly 47 qualifying conditions are covered, spanning arthritis, dementia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, cancer and chronic pain syndromes.
  • Almost 1.7 million pensioners currently receive Attendance Allowance but ongoing outreach campaigns urge potentially eligible individuals to claim via the 0800 731 0122 helpline.
