DWP Warns of Scams as £150 Warm Home Discount Rolls Out for Winter 2025/26

The government has widened eligibility this season, extending the credit to an extra 2.7 million low-income households.

Overview

  • Twenty-eight participating suppliers are automatically applying the one-off £150 to electricity accounts from November 2025 through 31 March 2026, with most credits expected before January.
  • Major firms including British Gas, Octopus, E.ON, EDF and OVO say credits or prepay top-up vouchers are being issued now.
  • Officials say no application is needed in England and Wales, with only low-income customers in Scotland required to apply through their energy supplier.
  • Eligibility includes those on the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit and broader low-income or qualifying benefit groups, and the scheme does not operate in Northern Ireland.
  • The DWP urges people to ignore unsolicited calls or texts requesting bank details and advises contacting the Warm Home Discount helpline if no letter arrives by early January, before the 28 February 2026 query deadline.
