DWP Warns Attendance Allowance Claimants to Report Circumstance Changes Now

Failure to update the department can trigger payment changes or penalties.

Overview

  • More than 1.7 million pensioners receive the tax‑free payment at £73.90 or £110.40 a week, usually paid every four weeks.
  • Claimants must contact the Attendance Allowance helpline on 0800 731 0122 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm) to report changes that could affect entitlement.
  • Reportable changes include altered care needs or health, hospital or care‑home stays, trips abroad over four weeks, imprisonment, and updates to name, address, bank, doctor or immigration status.
  • The DWP warns that failing to report changes or giving incorrect information may lead to reduced or increased payments, a penalty or court action.
  • In Scotland, new claims are now handled through Pension Age Disability Payment, while existing awards remain with the DWP for updates until transfers complete later this year.
