DWP Triggers First £25 Cold Weather Payments for 18 Northern England Postcodes

Eligible benefit claimants in 18 northern England postcodes will receive automatic £25 credits within 14 working days.

Overview

  • - About 6,000 households in Cumbria, Northumberland and English parts of the Scottish Borders qualify under this activation.
  • - The activated districts include CA10, CA11, CA12, CA16, CA17, CA9, LA8, LA9, LA10, LA21, LA22, LA23, NE19, NE47, NE48, NE49, DG14 and TD9.
  • - Payments are triggered when local average temperatures are recorded or forecast at 0C or below for seven consecutive days, based on linked weather stations.
  • - Amber cold-weather health alerts remain in place for the North East and North West until 5 January, with forecasts of lows near -5C, snow and strong northerly winds.
  • - The £25 arrives automatically with a reference showing the recipient’s National Insurance number plus 'DWP CWP'; eligibility covers Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based JSA, income-related ESA, Universal Credit and Support for Mortgage Interest, while Scotland and Northern Ireland run different winter support schemes.
