Overview

  • Since launching its PIP review after the 2019 Supreme Court ruling, the department has assessed 527,745 of 633,338 affected households and disbursed £250 million in back payments.
  • There are still 105,593 unresolved PIP cases awaiting assessment for underpayments that average £5,285 per claimant but can exceed £12,000 in some instances.
  • Recent audits identified errors for claimants without National Insurance numbers and for those moving from Scotland’s PIP to Adult Disability Payment, triggering £500,000 and £13 million in additional payouts respectively.
  • Personal Independence Payment now supports more than 3.7 million working-age recipients with awards reaching £749.80 every four weeks for daily living and mobility needs.
  • The DWP is urging pensioners to check Attendance Allowance eligibility as an estimated 1.1 million remain unregistered for a non-means-tested benefit worth up to £5,644 annually.
