Overview

  • Claimants must report any change in their daily living or mobility needs by calling the PIP helpline on 0800 121 4433 between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday, as these adjustments can affect eligibility, award amount and benefit duration.
  • Extended absences from the UK lasting more than four weeks require advance notification with travel dates, destination and purpose to avert automatic payment suspension.
  • Both PIP components stop after 28 days in an NHS hospital and the daily living payment ends after 28 days in a publicly funded care home, with suspended benefits not refunded.
  • Detention in legal custody triggers suspension of PIP payments after 28 days, with separate custody periods within 12 months treated as linked spells.
  • Non-entitlement changes—such as updates to name, bank details, appointee or address—must still be reported to keep DWP records current but do not affect payment eligibility.
