Overview
- The £150 one-off credit will be applied automatically to eligible customers’ electricity accounts, with no application needed in most cases.
- In England and Wales, eligibility includes recipients of the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit or those on a low income, while Scotland uses similar rules but requires meeting supplier criteria and some low-income customers may need to apply.
- DWP confirmed 28 participating energy suppliers, including British Gas, Octopus Energy, EDF, ScottishPower, OVO and Utilita.
- The department warned that any unsolicited calls asking people to apply for the discount are scams.
- Prepayment customers can still receive the credit, which may be issued as a top-up voucher, and those served for both fuels by one supplier may have it applied to gas instead; the scheme is not available in Northern Ireland.
